The NFL is back with a bang, and it promises to be better than ever. We’ve already seen some brilliant games and shocks, with the Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs losing to the Detroit Lions on the opening day of the season. Already, football fans have been making their predictions on which teams are most likely to reach the Super Bowl.
Throughout the season, it’s also possible to make picks at your favorite NFL betting site. A growing number of states have now legalized online sports betting, meaning placing wagers on all the action during the season can be done with a few taps on your phone. If you want a better idea of which picks to make, here are the top teams so far and their chances of winning the Super Bowl.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers are comfortably the best team in the NFL right now, based on their roster and form. In week 5, they’ve gone unbeaten and look to be unstoppable. As a result, they’ve been given insane odds of +350 to lift the Vince Lombardi trophy at the end of the season. Considering they’ve outscored their opponents by 99 points on average so far, it’s easy to see why.
Brock Purdy is the standout star for San Francisco this season, and he’s recorded an impressive 10.3 yards per throw attempt. He’s also linked up very well with running back Christian McCaffrey, leading to both names being in early contention for the season MVP award.
Will the 49ers prove the sportsbooks right? It’s still too early to say, but they definitely look like a difficult team to beat, and it would be a big surprise if they weren’t playing in Super Bowl 58. Even if they suffer from injuries to key players, they likely still have the depth for a deep playoff run.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs began the season as favorites, having won Super Bowl 57 against the Philadelphia Eagles. After a loss to the Detroit Lions in their opening fixture, betting interest has cooled somewhat. However, the loss has aged well as the Lions continue to show they’re a contender this year. In addition, the Chiefs have followed up the loss by going unbeaten.
If there’s one thing that championship-winning teams do, it’s bounce back from defeats to show that they’re still the team everyone said they were. Despite the pressure on the Chiefs to make history and win back-to-back Super Bowls, they’ve looked calm and composed in all of their games.
Patrick Mahomes is clearly the best quarterback in the league and is already putting up great numbers at this stage in the season. This is despite not having Kelce on the field due to injury. In addition to the offense, the Chiefs have an excellent defense, with opponents managing just 14.4 points per game so far.
Philadelphia Eagles
Last season’s Super Bowl runners-up looked like the strongest team all season but fell short at the final hurdle against a Chiefs team that proved to be just too good. Despite their disappointment of losing the Super Bowl, Eagles fans will feel good about their chances this season.
Their team hasn’t undergone any major changes and will have the experience to help them make another push. The changes that have been made have been for the better, with excellent replacements coming in to create a roster with more strength in depth than before.
The Eagles may be the third-favorite according to the sportsbooks, but they have a real chance of winning it. In week five, they’ve gone unbeaten this season, and they’ll have that extra motivation to succeed this time.
